I From 9 a.m. to 10 a.in. the Synod ! discussed the social problem under the [direction of the District Branch ot the iMethodist Social Service T nion. An [interesting discussion took place, which was continued this morning. ■ After devotional exercises the Synod [officers were elected. Rev. Chappell, |M,A.. being almost unanimously electjed secretary. On his nomination, I Rev. Scott and Tinsley were appointed his assistants. ! The District Chairman briefly welIcomed the delegates to the Synod, also ’the ministers who had entered the [district during the year. He also referred to the industrial unrest at present troubling the life of the Dominion, contending that tlie Church was alwavs on the side- of the working man in his struggle for his rights. But the [Church considered that clitlerences bejtween employers end employees should be settled not by force, but by arbitration. The Synod, by standing votes, expressed their sympathy with relatives [of two minister's recently deceased, 'Revs. Wm. Tinsley and C. E. Beecroft, and their appreciation of the ■character and labours of these two [brethren. I The Synod agreed to recommend for I Die favorable consideration of Conferionce the application of Rev. C. Crllin to he supernumerary for a year, pis health being declared bv medical 'statements to demand at least that 1 rest.
