[Per Press Association.] Wellington, November 26. Frederick George Butler proceeded against the Petone Borough Council to-day for the recovery of £ll 2s 6d for damages to his motor car thiongu colliding with'one of the hurdles placed across the Hutt Road by the Council to regulate the speed ol motoi vehicles. 1 The Magistrate, in nonsuiting -plaintiff, with costs, said it was evident the Council was not to blame, as thousands of cars had apparently gone over the obstructions without injury.

James Henderson Thompson, charged, at the Police Court with being an idle and disorderly person, without lawful means of support and obtaining money by false pretences, was described'by the police as a finished rascal. Although never in Court before, hr was charged under aliases of Hr. Thompson and Dr. Jordon. He represented himself as a remittance man and imposed on various hotels and boarding houses. Accused was arrested at Wellington under the name of Dr. Jordon. Accused pleaded that he suffered from a weak heart and was always under the influence of morphia. Mr Fraser, S.M., said the only thing he could do for accused was to sentence him to reformative treatment for 12 months.
