There are now r2BU members of the new waterside union. The secretary states it is intended to bring in a number of men from the country and bring the union up to a working basis. He points out that the strikers have had ample opportunity to return, but have not done so. Twenty - boats are working this morning. The Arawa, arrived from London this morning wit bailout 500 immigrants, who met with a hearty reception from the crowd. The statement made by the employers’ defence committee to-day reiterates that the solo responsibility for the strike rests with the old W ellington waterside workers’ I nion, and points out the fact that some of the strikers have returned to work, leaving the workers who did not strike without employment. The committee will have nothing to do with the Eederation in the settlement negotiations, having no faith in its written or given word. It will stand by and for the new arbitration union of waterside workers and drivers, and will resist the Federation of Labour to the utmost.
