440 PER CENT. INTEREST. Extraordinary uaury onerationg by a railway signalman, Thomas Henry West, were , disclosed ■ in the Bankruptcy Court at Perth (\V.A.) Am insolvent, Peter Keith, dispoeefcl that he borrowed 1 £2O for three months from West, engaging to pay him '£6 interest. He paid lOgs. at 30s a woek. and West was charging him £8 9s interest on the balance. West was fully secured by a bill of sale ovcy insolvent's furniture. West was al.su charging him £4 a month interst on the £lO loan.
West, who demanded.9s 6d expenses before giving evidence, admitted these facts, and considered 'tors charges of 130 per cent., 162 per cent., and 440 per cent, severally were tfjtite legitimate.
The Official Receiver declared that West should not be in Government employment.
