MELBOURNE’S HOVELS.
THE HOUSING PROBLEM. [Br Electric Telegraph—Copyright) [United Press Association.] (Received 9.55 a.m.) Melbourne, November 21. Before the Housing Commission, evidence was produced of the existence of many hovels. In some suburbs families were herded together. Some three-roomed places were occupied by nine persons. Many houses were insanitary, being i na rotting condition and batbless. In one street sixteen houses had one bath only. Exorbitant rents were charged.
