During the Cost of Living Inquiry at Sydney reference was made by his Honor, Mr Justice He.\don, to the fact that it was easier to pay one's way when they had money in hand than wlien in debt.' "I can quite understand that," replied Mr Connington, "we meet with different people. 1 have known men to come into work with me, and they have brought only a bit of dry bread for dinner." His Honor: "If people want to get on in iife they have to stint themselves. I did so in my e»rly days, because I wished to get on." Mr Connington : "No one'as lived harder than! have, or had a rougher time. Of course, when we experienced, those things we were younger. You cannot do it when you are older." His Honor: "That is one of the reasons why you have to do i\ when you are young. You cannot live on anything when you get old." Mr Connington: "At any rate, I would be sorry to ask other people to economise as I have done." ,
