BOWLING.

THE STRATFORD OLU3

\ T 7 Steward.)

Another round in the Buttons Com-, petition was played last evening, and resulted as follow's:Mereer, .Martin, Porritt, Morison j (.«) l;> v. Newton, Davey, Kookes. McMillan (s) 9. C.'Jackson, Brake, Wright Dingle (s'i 22 v- Hyson, ''• Masters, Reeve. King (s) 6. Bickerton, Grant, E. .Jackson. Smart (s) 1!) v. Eeid, Edgecumbe, Venn, McDonald (s) 9. In the next round on Monday. No. I team plays No. 4,2 plays 5, and •'! plays o*. The Feathers is making little headway owing to the absence of players, and a good deal more enthusiasm will have to be. shown if the competition is to be sustained'.' A suggestion has been made which is, perhaps, worthy of consideration by the committee, and that is, that on the off-days (Thursday and Saturday) play for the Feathers might be permitted. Such an arrangement would rather prove I satisfactory to players, and, at any irate, it would lift the competition from the farcical position which at !present appears in sight. That bugbear of bowling clubs, the ant, is not unknown on the local green, and an incident last evening in connection therewith was viewed with entire satisfaction by all under whoso notice it came. One of the keenest of our members recently discovered a nest of the little pests, and biding his time until they -.- ere well on the way to light and the freedom of the. turf, put a stopper on all their evil design** by a liberal dose of spirits of salts.

There jarp two sides to every question, and this is well shown in the view taken of McDonald's winning shot in the .game between Stratford and Eltham by the respective supporters. Whereas Stratford consider "Mac''' made "a beautiful drive," converting a minority of one into a majority of two, the Eltham paper's report states that it was a "flukey" shot!

A special meeting of the Patea Bowling Club was held on Wednesday to consider a notice of motion "That the resolution carried at a meeting held on October 25th be rescinded." In moving the resolution before the meeting Mr 0. Williams considered that the best interests of the members would be served if the Patea Ciub remained .attached to the Wangnnui Centre, He had no personal feeling in tlie matter, but had given the question careful consideration, and was of opinion that the Club should stick to the arrangements made by he Dominion Bowling Association's executive! Mr Gibson Seconded the motion aiuTponlted out'that. ,in the ,mat 7 tor of train arrangements the Patea Club would he best suited if the matches took place at the Wangauui end. On the question being put the motion was declared lost. The position now is that as the Club has expressed ~a w,ish to be | allowed to affiliate with'the TarpnaM Clubs,- the Wangauui. Centre will be asked to agree to the transfer 1 .
