ATHLETICS.
THE TARANAKI ASSOCIATION
At the annual meeting of the Taranaki Athletic and Caledonian 4 SSOC '" ation on Thursday evening, the ninth annual report was read as followS: In presenting the ninth annual report and balance-sheet, the executive wish to draw attention of clubs to the fact that application for their annual sports should be.put in as soon as possible, as the secretary has considerable trouble in allocating dates unless applications are iii early. The executive also wish to impress upon clubs the importance of being represented at the annual meeting, last year only five clubs were represented. The annual conference was held in Blenheim, and was attended to by Mr Hansen, on behalf of this centre. Secretaries of clubs are very lax in returning butts of registration books. As this is very necessary, the executive would be glad if more attention were paid to it in future, as every registered competitor 1 receives a copy of the calendar posted to him monthly, and this cannot be done unless the butts of the books are handed in to the secretary. On account of pressure of other work, the secretary, Mr W. B. Fearon, is resigning and it will be necessary to elect someone to the position.
Officers for the year were elected: —Patron, Mr J. B. Hine, M.P.; president, Mr Jas. Clarke; vice-presidents, Messrs T. Taylor (Riverlea), and Jas. McLeod- (New Plymouth); executive, Messrs J. A. Hansen (Elthaiu), G. N. Skelton (Waitara), J. H. Thompson (Stratford), J. Garcia (New Plymouth), W. A. Curtis (Marigatoki), J. Gibbs (Inglewood), A. Beesley (Eltham), T. Campbell CPatea) ; auditor, Mr L. Riera; secretary (acting) Mr Hansen.
A bonus of £lO 10s was voted to the secretary, and £2 2s to the auditor. At a subsequent meeting of the" executive, Mr J. H. Thompson was elected chairman. %
Tn view of a misunderstanding between Rowan and other clubs, it was decided to grant the Rowan Club reaffiliation.
