I CANTERBURY J.C. MEETING. [Per Press Association.] Christchurch, November 8 % . Tlie Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring .Meeting opened in cool weather. There had been rain overnight and heavy showers in the morning, but the going was very fair, though on the soft side. The industrial trouble affected interest, and the crowd, though large, was not up to the previous yea/, and many well-known sportsmen were absent. Results:— Spring Hurdles.-—Peary 1, Coronetted 2, Kilmeny 3. Also started: I'mberaboy. Kilmeny led at a mile and a half, when Peary took charge and won by four lengths. Time, 3niin -16 1-osec.

Spring Plate.—Stevedore 1, Birkful 2, Banksia 3. Also started: Sir Malt, Sunbird. Stevedore and Birkful were in front practically all the way, the former winning by a bare length. Time, lmin -Usee.

Riccarton Welter.—Brown Owl 1, Lord Renown 2, Princess Mputoa 3. scratched : Kilrain, Mysteriaeh, Imagination, Seatondale, Carolus, Semaphore-, Somniform. trench Rose led from'Cherubim, Brown Owl, and Ozier to the top turn. There Brown Owl lost her place, but in the turn home she easily smothered the opposition and won by a length and a half. Time, lmin 41 3-ssee. NEW ZEALAND CUP. The Auckland Racing Club Meeting was continued in fine weather. The attendance is considerably affected by the strike. Results:—
