A SERIOUS CRIME.
'WOMEN ATTACKED WITH TOMAj HAWK AND KNIFE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright J [United Press Association.] Sydney, November 2. A mysterious affair occurred at Cowell's farmhouse, near Berrigan. 'An unknown man entered a bedroom occupied by Cowell's daughter and her 'aunt, Mrs Fox, and attacked them jwith a tomahawk and a knife. During the struggle the-room 'was fired or became ignited. The women attempted to escape, I but tile intruder pushed them back into- the burning roQjn.| Cowell came to their assistance, and? the intruder struck him several blows with the tomahawk and escaped., 'Neighbours and the police rescued the women. Mrs Fox is suffering from 'blows on the head and: face and severe. burns on the body and is in a serious condition. The wounds of Cowell and his daughter are not serious. ARRESTED ON SUSPICION.
