COMMERCIAL.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: —

On Tuesday, 28th ipst., wo had a small yarding of heifers, most ol which sold at advanced rates for good quality well-grown heifers. Prices were as follows: —9os, 112 s, 1255, 130 s, 140 s, 142 s Gd, 1455, 1655, good heifers, calved, up to 180 s; dairy cows, backward, 110 s to 180 s, and 280 s for good Stuff; cows in milk, quality poor, up to 130 s.

During the' week wo effected private sales at late > rates, namely, 'yearling steers 'sss, 575, ’ 58s Gd, colored yearling heifers dp to 95s for a nice line, 2-yelir empty heifers 75s to 82s Gd, 2 to 2'l-year' steers 87s Gd to 100 s, 3-year-old bullocks 122 s Gd to 130 s, springing heifers 126 s to 150 s. hoggets 15s to 16s 3d, gelding 2-year-old £24.

EIIUPTITE.—On Wednesday, 29tl inst. 1 , we held a demonstration of stumping with this explosive .on Messrs Clelland Bros.’ and Mr R. T. B. Mel'low’s farms, Kaponga. The follow ing were in attendance and expressec satisfaction with the satisfactory work effected, more especially with small charges, all of which were weighed in scales before being appliec to the trees and stumps:—N. The third operation was on : Mahoe, which! had the top cut off re cently, leaving the stump about S feet above the grohnd. 21bs were ap plied to this (cost Is 9d). and thos< who backed the tree were surprise' at seeing it lifted, with roots, right out of the'ground. This is a class of treo that is very plentiful in tin district, and which is most difficul’ to get out owing to its numerom spreading roots.
