This i renowned sire may fittingly be referred to as one of the fountain heads of Clydesdale blood in New' Zealand. His stock have been phenomenally successful in the show-ring, and our show-yard records prove the far-reaching effect LordSalisbury had on the Clydesdale breed in Australasia. Lord Salisbury himself was never beaten in the show-yard, gaining first prize at Ayr, 1876; in 187 1 first at Kilmarnock and champion medal for best horse in the yard ; first prize at Dairy, first prize at Ayr, first j prize at Glasgow, and first prize at I the Highland Society’s Show at Edinburgh, first prize at Dunedin in 1881, j first prize and champion at Taieri iix| 1883, 1884, and 1885, first prize and'i champion at Dunedin in 1884, 1885, 1886, and 1887; and was brought to New Zealand by the late Mr J. F. Kitching for the Moa Flat Stud at a cost of ISOOgns.
