TWO SEAMEN DROWNED. [By Elkctbio TEiiEGUArn— Copy bight] L United Pkess Association J Sydney, October 29. The Northern Chief arrived early this morning from Auckland. She reported that on October 16 two seamen named Schlatter and Enelsen while hauling the t'orebrace, fell overhoard, owing to the vessel lurching. Lifebelts and timber were thrown overboard, and a boat launched, but when it reached the place where the men were last seen, there was no trace of them. •
A LIFT ACCIDENT. Sydney, October 29. A lift at the Dunlop Rubber Company's warehouse, with four men aboard, broke away and dashed to the basement. Three scrambled out badly shaken, but a heavy lift-weight fell on the fourth, a man named Bunyon, and he was crushed to death. PROGRESS OF EDUCATION. (Received 9.40 a.m.) Sydney, October 30. Mr Holman has received a letter from Lord Haldane acknowledging documents showing the educational progress of Xew South Wales. "These records," the writer states, "make me marvel. Ido not think there is any other part of the Empire where such systematic plans have been initiated and put into operation. J hope I will have the opportunity of drawing attention to the stimulating example you are setting."
