Mr Alexander Campbell, for some years a resident of Toko, who recently took up.farming in the Waikato, died at his residence at Matangi on Wednesday last. Ohura sportsmen are endeavoring to arrange a wrestling match between C. Hine, of New Plymouth,; and M. Rodgers, of Ohura, the match to take place at Ohura. The death is announced from Christchurch of Mr William' Henry WynnWilliams. Ho was born in i!828 and came to New Zealand in the early, fifties. He was a member! of the Canterbury Provincial Council and sat in the House of Representatives for Heathcdle from 1881 to 1881.—P.A. “Settler,” writing to the Ohura Advocate, says: Cr. Currie deserves a certain amount of credit for the

courage of his opinion, viz., That t|io construction of the Stratford-Te Koura Railway is ft national question. When the work is completed and communication opened by rail with the Main Trunk and Taranaki, our supplies,of road metal opened up, the present enormous cost of-cartage reduced, and the development *of our coal seams, the chief market for which will he the West Coast towns, then the district will receive the full benefit of the railway. But Taranaki appears to have seized upon the idea that the Ohura is unanimously in favor of the railway being pushed on at the present time from the Stratford end, which is incorrect. As a serious misconstruction has been placed upon the .resolution referred to, it is pleasing to note that our hitherto wrangling councillors are capable of rising to the occasion as one happy family and uniting in protecting the just interests I of the community.
