LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Kennedy’s Entertainers, a weir known nigh-class musical compaiu, are to visit Stratford at an earn date. Owing, no doubt, to the holiday yesterday there was no quorum at tm annual meeting ol the Swimming Clue called for last night, and the meeting has now been postponed sine die. The annual inspection at the Convent school took place yesterday, and the children are now on holiday till the end of the week. The school is reported to have made an excellent pass.

A motor cyclist who passed through Stratford yesterday had a narrow escape from serious injury. He was going along at a fair speed when a dog got in his way, and machine and rider were turned completely over. I'ortunately the rider came by no more harm than a little gravel rash.

The Stratford corps of the Salvation Army held a social last night, at which there was an excellent attendance. During the evening the results of the Army’s self-denial appeal were announced. The total for the colony was £17,200. as against £'15,960 for the previous year. The divisional totals were as follow, the figures for the previous year being quoted first in each case:—Wellington 1912 £6310, 1913 £7113; Auckland £3903 and £1115; Canterbury £2828 and £2968; Otago £2912 and 92.913; totals, £15,960 and £17,2(10. Stratford’s total was £ll9, about £l7 more than last year. Totals of other centres were as follow: Auckland £9lO, Dunedin £7lO, Wellington £1360, (Osborne £1630, Christchurch £655. In the case of the cities the total does not include the suburbs.
