BERNARD'S PICTURES. To-night five new series of pictures at Bernard's popular picture theatre, including the celebrated grand opera "Carmen," introducing the original music personally. selected by Mr C. H. Kogers. The story begins in a bandit camp in Spain, where Carmen is exercising her power over the men and winning them from the girls they admire by their dancing round the camp fires. The bandit chief is captured by the carbineers.; An" unsuspicious jailer is captivated! by her charming manner, and the re-i lease of the chief is soon accomplish-! ed. She makes the acquaintance 'of Jose. She swears to be true to Jose, but becomes interested in a popular | Metador. Jose kills an officer and | seeks refuge with the bandits, and i Carmen accompanies him. While on sentry duty, he permits a coach to| pass without notice, and he is about! to be killed when Carmen intercedes. Later she goes to the city with the; Matedor, and Jose follows. He compels her to return to the mountains where it dawns upon her that she is' being led to the execution place of, the bandits. She tries her wiles on Jose, but as she turns to him he plunges a daggei\ into her heart. Thej remainder of the programme which consists of dramatic, scenic and comics, leaves nothing to be desired..
