ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
"KICKED" BY A MOTOR. [Per Press Association.] Ashburton, October 21. A youth named Allen Smith, of Springburn, while endeavouring to start a motor car at Hinds, this morning, had his right arm fractured. Yesterday a young male resident of Ashburton met with a similar accident, and another that occurred in the district, says a local medical man, makes the third fractured limb in Ashburton County through the same cause yesterday morning, and the fourth within a month.
A MOTOR FATALITY
j Auckland. October 21. ! The circumstances connected with [the death of Thomas Clemond Thorpe, I who was knocked down by a motor, car and killed on Sunday, were investigated by the, coroner to-day. The accident occurred on the Mangere road, a group of youths being overtaken by a taxi-cab, one of them—the deceased—being knocked down and fatally injured. The coroner's finding was "that deceased died on Sunday afternoon, the cause of death being injuries received through being struck land run over by a motor car, driven by one George Hopkins, and that the jsaid George Hopkins was guilty of (1) trying to pass too close to deceased when there was ample room, and (2) giving insufficient warning of his approach."
