His sire Herd Laddie (2SGS C. 5.8., imp.) won first and champion prizes, Nathalia, in 1890; first and champion prizes and first for the Doghorty Cup at Nathalia, and fi-st and champion prizes at Tatura in 1891. The prizes taken by his stock would fill a volume, some of them being shown 21 times and gaining 21 firsts and 8 champion prizes, as well as winning the Produce Stakes and Gold Cup twice in succession at Royal Melbourne. Dam Maggie, by Lord Salisbury (1205)*, sire Young Conqueror (959)*, g.g.-siro Conqueror (196)*, darn Darling (74)*, by Tintock; g.-dam Jean, by Surprise ‘(B46)*. This renowned sire may fittingly be referred to as one of the fountain heads of Clydesdale blood in New Zealand, Elis stock have been ohenomenally successful in the show-ring, and our show-yard records prove the far-reaching effect Lord Salisbury had on the Clydesdale breed in Australasia. Lord Salisbury himself was never beaten in the show-yard,, gamin"’ first prize at Ayr, 1876; in 1877 first at Kilmarnock and champion medal for best horse in the yard; first prize at Dairy, first prize at Ayr, first prize at Glasgow, and first prize at the Highland Society’s Show- at Edinburgh, first prize at Dunedin in 1881, first prize and champion at Taieri in 1883, 1884, and 1885, first prize and champion at Dunedin in 1884, 1885, 1886, and 1887, and was brought to New Zealand by the late Mr J. F. Hitching for the Moa Flat Stud at a cost of ISOOgns. Here-I-Go’s granddam by General Outram, by Sir Colin (775, imp.), which was the sire of some cf the best mares New Zealand ever, saw, such as Laura Macpherson, who claims Sir Colin as her sire; g-grand-dam by Marquis, by Prince Charlie (imp.).
