A pitched battle occurred at MarIcella between rival Gipsy tribes over the profits of a sale of mules and ! donkeys. The men and women participated, but the onlookers wisely did not interfere, as a knife came into play. The agility displayed was remarkable. Two were dead and nine wounded after half-hour’s battle. The civil guard appeared, and charged the combatants with fixed bayonets, stopping the fight and arresting twenty men and fifteen women.
