i STRIKE OF WATERSIDERS

The members of the shipwrights branch of the Waterside Workers’ Union ceased work to-day because o the j'efusal by the employers of the demands for set conditions and higher pay. The Union asked for Is 9d an flxoxir and overtime of 2s 9d till 10 p.m. and 2s lid thereafter. The employers offered Is 7d and overtime of Is lljd for two hours and 2s 4td thereafter. The Union then asked for Is 8d and overtime at 2s 8d and 2s lOd. About thirty men ai'e involved. Other general conditions based on the waterside workers’ agreement are also demanded. The present wages are Is 6d, with overtime at If. 10[d and 2s 3d. , The hulk Jubilee is on the slip. Otherwise there is no •urgent work. The Union is affiliated with the Federation of Labor.
