James Ryan has been arrested ii connection with the death, of Stephens who was discovered on the 13th tilt.' unconscious in a paddock at West Adelaide with a woman standing near the dying man, to whom she was ongaged. Ryan was a witness at the inquest, and in his evidence said that when he got off the tramcar at 11.50 at night he noticed a man and woman conversing. He heard dogs barking at 1.30 in the morning and went out. He saw the man lying bleeding at the ear, with a beer bottle alongside which seemed stained with blood. The woman, who was intoxicated, asked him to bring the police, hut when ho returned the woman had gone.
