1T lie Government of tbe Dominion of Canada has decided to introduce legislation shortly to provide for the granting of loans to farmers at low rates of interest. The chairman of the Commission which was recently appointed to investigate agricultural credits has reported that the farmers of the Dominion suffer under very I great hardship in. the matter of facili- , ties for borrowing money. They are obliged to pay from S to oO per cent, on advances, while European farmers' with less lam! and a smaller investment can secure almost any amount! of loans at from 2to (i per cent. The Government, it is also stated, has also decided to introduce a hill to afford “aj reasonable measure? of relief” to the depositors of the Farmers’ Bank, which, failed through mismanagement.
