ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. | I [Per Press Association.] ; Hastings, October 14. ( Karl Ritz, 54, single, a gardener employed at Horton’s Nurseries, atI tempted to commit suicide last night 'i by drinking an irritant poison. He i was found in his wharo this morning | in a critical condition, and - was re- '( moved to the hospital. A note left by him showed that the act was premeditated. AN OPPOSITION RALLY. Palmerston X., October 13. A Parliamentarian party comprising Messrs Russell, R. W. Smith, Atraore, Jsitt and J. C. Thompson paid a visit to Palmerston North to-night to reply to the Reform rally and the visit of the Prime Minister. They addressed a crowded meeting. The speeches were on general lines, and there was considerable enthusiasm at times. At the conclusion a resolution was passed recognising Sir J. Ward’s patriotic action in accepting the leadership of the Liberal Party and hopes that before long he would be again guiding the destinies of this country. Cheers were given for Sir J. Ward and the Liberal Party.
