BOWLING.

The weather being favorable on Thursday, practice games will be played on the local bowling green. The rinks are in very good order for this time of the season, only a few bare patches showing here and there; still, on these, the grass is beginning to show, and in the course of a few weeks the sward should be complete. A committee meeting was held last night, when the following were present:—Messrs Fookes (chair), Porritt (secretary), Penn, McDonald, Brake, Martin, Edgcombe, and McMillan.

Mr Edgcombe reported that the caretaker’.? wife was prepared to superintend the afternoon teas.

The following invitations to members to the opening of their greens have been received: Patea, October 15; Eltham, October 16; Hawera, October 22; Opunake, October 29. The Stratford green is to be officially opened on Thursday, October 30th, at 2 p.m. The green is now open for practice on Thursdays and Saturdays. Mr G. Smart has kindly offered his services to coach new members.

Mr A. J. Davey and Mr J. Hignett were elected members of the Club.

The following resolution, moved by Mr ,1. W. McMillan and seconded by Mr Smart, was carried: 1. That the playing members of the club be divided as near as possible into teams of six players each; (2) each team to appoint its own selector and advise the secretary of the appointment; (3) each team to arrange their own rinks and pairs for all club' and inter-club matches; (|4) transfers may ! be arranged'from one'team'to another between players bf' eqilnl merit, provided sdeh trains.' levs’ are satisfactory l to the teams concerned for one week only after the personnel of the teams has been notified. The committee may alter or discontinue tliis arrangement if found unsatisfactory.

Competition for the Fookes’ Buttons and the Osmond Feathers must commence between 3 and 5.30 o’clock on about three evenings 'iii each week.

The following playing conditions for rinks .apcl pairs matches for. the Buttons and leathers have been drawn

up: Each rink and pair will be drawn to play every other rink and pair which will constitute a round.

Winners to hold Buttons' and Feathers till completion of next round. Matches to start not later than 5.30 p.m. or before 5 p.m. Any rink oi pair not ready to play at 5.30 shall lose by default.

Rinks allowed to play one substitute

only. Teams must change the personnel of their rinks and pairs for every round.

Matches to be cancelled for any evening by mutual arrangement or by order of the green warden, if wet.

Matches not played on evenings allot-

ted can be played again. In the event of rinks or pairs n inning the same number of games the winner shall he the one with least points scored against it, and should there still be a tie the points for shall decide. The number of heads to be played shall be decided by the match committee for each round. In the event of the number of heads not being played for and reason whatever, matches will be decided on heads played. Match ties to be decided by extra

head. Dead heads to count as a head played and one point against the players

side. Conditions may be altered by mate i committee after one week’s notice, but not during a round.

At the end of the season the Buttons and Feathers are to be handed to the secretary.
