DAIRY PRODUCE YKADE.

Dealings with the Canadian Dairy Produce Trade the Christrhurcl “Press” notes that the Moatrea' “Star” is very much concerned ovei the way in which New Zealand i; beating Canada in the export of butter and cheese to the English market, and points out that in the lirst six months of the current year Xew Zealand sent into the British market 479,000 cwt. of cheese, as compared wit 210,00 cwt. from Canada. It was expected, however, that Canada wunk then turn its balance during the remaining six months. Nine year, ago, in 1904, Canadian cheese constituted 72.4 per cent, of British cheese imports, while Xew Zealand’s share was only 3 per cent. in, the yeai ended June 30th last, the Canadian article accounted for only’ 56.5 pei cent., • while that from Xew Zealand had risen to 25 per cent. In othei words, during the last nine years, ,tlu Canadian exports of cheese to the United Kingdom, have fallen from 98,000 tons t 0.06,000 tons, and in the saup) period Xew Zealand’s, exportshave risen from 4.000 to 29,01]0 tons. The same story has to he told in regard fo blitter. Jn 1906 ; Capada spnt, |J6,000,' tons of .but ter to. Croat flrifain, and, in 1912 .only ,2900, fens, wiiile,in 1905 Xew Zealand sent 15,00:1 jtons,, and in 1,912 16,000 tons. The only consolation from the Canadian point of view is that the falling off in the exports of Canadian dairy products is due to the increased demand ot the local market. iho census reports show that the population between 1900 and 1910 increased by 31 per pent,., while the output of cheese rose by less than 5 per cent. ,
