THE DEFENCE CONFERENCE.

In the House, Mr Cook, in reply t a question, stated that the .Government had requested the .Imperial Gc vernment to convene a conference o representatives of the Dominions an. the United Kingdom to discuss Im perial matters generally, but primar ily defence. Ho added that lie had n. official information that the pj-ppcjsec Defence Conference had been aban doned. PREPARING FOR DISSOLUTION. Sydney, October 10. The closing hours of the session are proving disastrous to Governmenl measures. The Assembly threw old the Vaccination Bill, and the Council the Eight Hours Bill. Both housef have been working at high pressure for the last few days, with a viev to finishing the session this Week prior to a dissolution.
