THE OPUNAKE RAILWAY.
SETTLERS FAVOR KAPONCA ROUTE. At a well-attended meeting of settlers presided over by Mr A. Colson, and held in the Mahoe Hall on Monday, to discuss the railway routes from Qpunake to the main line, it was proposed by Mr Anderson, seconded by Mr Whittington, and carried unanimously: "That this meeting of settlers strongly urges on the Hon. Prime Minister and the Hon. Minister for Public "Works the desirability of-having a detailed survey of the rStratford-Kaponga railway route
for reasons as follows :—(1) That a
detailed i survey will probably show that-the comparative cost of formation o£ thfs line will Tie much less than has been stated/because the rivers in the
area concerned are easier to negotiate . route than,on thejkrther proposed route. (2) That this] route will prWide the best convenience for by.far j the, largest area and .-population and -give the best and most direct access ito the Port of New Plymouth,; which , 13, the only deep-sea port of.
