Thciv was a good attendance of the public,! but competition was quieter than at previous sales. On the same day, in conjunction with the Hawera branch of the Loan and .Mercantile Co., 1 conducted Mr It. H. Phillips' annual dairy sale at Xgaere. There was a good attendance of buyers, and the s,toc ( kbeing of good quality and condition,, there was 'excellent competition for both cows and heifers, a very satisfactory blearing being irade. Dairy cows sold at from £8 to £l6 15s, and £s''ss to £7 lUs, choice springing; heifers £8 10s to £l2 ss. others £5 10s to £7. On Monday at Toko, yearling heifers realised from £1 15s to £3 10s, empty cows £3 to £4, forward cows £5, empty hoifers £3 12s 6d, yearling bulls £2 Is, springing heifers £5, mixed ewes and hoggets 18s.
At my Sti-'atford yards on Tuesday, 30th ult., I had a fair entry of al! el isses. At my Haymafket on Saturday 1 had a full yarding of pigs, calves, etc., to offer before a large attendance of buyers. Prices ruling were about on a par with last isale. I quote—Slips and wcaners 7s 6d to •295, small stores £1 2s 6d to £1 Bs, medium do. £1 12s 6d to £1 18s 6d, so.vs £2 12s 6cT, calves 3s 6d to £1 18s, sundries at usual rates.

\ The Department of Agriculture has ii'ormulated new rules lor the importation of foreign meats. These require Foreign certificates, both post- ! mortem and ante-mortem inspection of animals in the country of origin, 'r.nd also inspection at the ports oi entry by Departmental agents.
