TRAGEDY IN AUSTRALIA.
MOTHER’S DEMENTED ACT.

A tragedy occurerd at Ballina. John Rankin, on returning home from a meeting discovered his house locked, and on forcing an entrance found his wife and a thirteen months child on the floor with their throats cut, dead. The child had also apparently been struck on the, head with a hammer foutid' lying near.
‘LOST IN THE BUSH.

The,., skeletons of two men, with a revolver;’ andrifle alongside each and the skull pierced with a bullet hole, were f«jnd4n the Gastrpyne district. They had apparently been, dead far a year.
It is supposed that they were prospectors who got bushed and who ended a fruitless struggle by placing the weapons in their nfcuths and discharging them.
