BOWLING.

The Eltham Bowling Club opened the season on Thursday, when there was a good attendance at the greens,

and a pleasant afterpoon was, spent. The Bowling Club’s green was played on for the first time this season, on Thursday afternoon, states

the Mail. It shaped very satisfactorily under the circumstances. Fourteen players turned up, having from afar, scented the possibility of a

game. x The Inglewood Record writes: The exceedingly mild nature of the weather during the first portion of the week led to the opening of the bowling green to members for play on Thursday. The Rev. Mr Bates, however, “took a change,” and sent along any thing but bowling weather, and as a consequence the game wasn’t what it was cracked up to be, a very cold wind being experienced with absence of sun. The appearance of the green gave ample evidence that the official'opening should not take place jtfst yet, as a portion of the top dressing was all too much in evidence for the mower’s effective work. Mem- 1 hers present had, however, plenty of green room and some pleasant games: were played, but there did not seem; to be any special desire to continue play by electric light.
