The New Zealand Shipping Company is about to increase its ordinary capital to a million, and create a million preference capital in 6 per cent, cumulative shares. It is intended to immediately issue the balance of preference shares, which are reserved for future requirements.

“Anglo-Canadian,” writing to the press, suggests a memorial to lawd Alfred Lyttelton, to consist of scholarships enabling Etonians to take colonial university courses, in order to pursue professions in the Colonies. COLLAPSE OF A GALLERY.

A gallery collapsed in a Jewish synagogue during New Year celebrations and a hundred persons were precipatated screaming with p*nic on the heads of those beneath. Only four were seriously injured but many were shaken.
BANKS SUSPEND PAYMENT.

Tho Credit Bank of India and two smaller banks have suspended payment. All are managed by Indians.
