ROWAN SCHOOL CONCERT.
[PR Oil OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.!
The Rowan school children held their annual concert in the local hall last Friday evening. The weather was fine, and, despite the fact that the farmers are fairly busy just now, there was a large and appreciative audience, many people coming from Kaponga. The chairman of the school committee (Mr Arthur Mellow) presided. The action songs and part singing of the school children were most creditably performed, i understand it is to the mistress (Miss E. Rowntree) and Mrs Dempsey that most of the credit is due for training the children. The following programme was rendered :—Miss Williams, pianoforte solo ; action song “The Witches,” School Children'; song, Mr Thomas; song, Mrs Hartley; recitation, Nora Marshall; dialogue, School Children; song, Mr Horne (encore); violin trio, Miss and Master Whitcombe and Mr King; Highland Ming Elsie Waite; violin solo, Mr King; song, Mr Dempsey. " At the conclusion of the programme supper was partaken of. after which the room 'was cleared, and a very enjoyable dance was indulged in. The accompaniments were played by Miss Williams, and the music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Arthur Mellow (piano), and Messrs King and Whittle (violins). Extras were played by ?drs Hartley and Miss Williams (piano).
