FAMILY TRAGEDY.
POISON, GAS, DROWNING. MOTHER MAY RECOVER. {By Electric 'telegraph—Copyright [United Press Association,] (Received 10.15 a.m.) London, Sepetmber 30. A remarkable family tragedy was revealed owing to Mrs Cowe being discovered unconscious in a hotel at King’s Cross. Her son, Alex., a Blue coat boy, was dead near by from the effects of eating chocolates containing morphia. The husband, who was a silk merchant at York, previously drowned himself in a bath owing to business trouble.
The eldest son, William, committed suicide with gas, Alex, narrowly escaping, as William placed the tube from the gas bracket under the clothes of the bed which the boys shared. The mother, apparently determined to give Alex a final good time, came to London, a fortnight ago and took him for a taxicab drive daily and went to the theatre every evening. She then gave her son poisoned, chocolates The mother is likely to recover.
