Interesting experiments Jiave been conducted at Dumfries for increasing plant growth by means of mercury vapour lamps, also by mixing radio-ac-tive material in the soil. Carrots influenced by ultra-violet rays gerniinated in eleven instead of twentysix days; maize, in eight instead of fifty-seven; strawberries increased their hearing twenty-five per cent, under the treatment, and flowers gave an increased foliage bloom.
