Pegoud, at Brooklands, before a large crowd, strapped to a Bleriot monoplane, climbed 300 feet, dived, turned the aeroplane over headlong, then sideways, recovered,and then volplaned to the earth. He twice repeated the performance, completely looping the loop and gliding upsidedown for seven hundred yards. There was intense excitement as the crowd carried Pegoud shoulder-high round the enclosure. While flying was in progress flames broke out amidst a hundred motor cars belonging to spectators owing to tho smashing of a petrol tank. Tho wh oleline was threatened because the cars werb closely packed. Extinguishers confined tho fire to four cars.
