* (Notes by Cicero.) The Spring fixture of the Wangamu Jockey Club, which opens to-morrow, and concludes on Saturday, will virtually open the present season's racing; so far'as this coast is concerned. The acceptances received are not as numerous, as one would expect, but nevertheless , some good racing should eventuate. Proceedings will commence with the Flying Handicap, in. which event the handsome black Postillion (9.3) heads the handicap. Despite his weight, Advance's son will probably "start favourite. Royal Simon (8.0), who is very well, win carry the-confidence of his party, and on Marton form, must take a lot, ol beating. Immer (7.9), ran third at Dannevirke, was not fancied by .her party in that event, and will probably oe one of the fancied ones. The Maiden Hack has drawn fifteen acceptors. Sunbird, who haiis from Tilley's stable, will start "very warm" in this event, and it will take something smart to beat her. The small field ol five left in the Guineas must be a disappointment to the Club. One consolation, however, to those present will bo that they will witness the meeting of probably, the best colt and filly of their year. I refer to Mowbray arid Bonny Helen. The latter is very well, and her trainer (Tilley) is sanguine of winning, but the writer does not like her chance against a coit like Mowbray. Another small field (fives figures in the Okehu Hurdles. Goodwin Park (10.8), who is very lenienttreated; on Iticcarton form, will command a big following. Eight still remain in the Gonville Hack Hurdles. Rill (11.5) heads the list. The chestnut mare won under 10.9 on Monday, and will probably even bo better suited on the Wanganui track. The good acceptance of eleven was received for the Putiki Hack. Secret Link (8.6) who won at Otaki, will probably start favourite, as she has been galloping remarkably well of late. Kew (9.1) is well in on performances, and may make it interesting. Of the nine left in the Durie Hack, Austin (8.2) looks the pick on handicap, but would encounter .much opposition from Commotion if the latter were backed by his connections. The first day's programme will be brought to a close with the Spring Handicap. Mira ran well at Otaki, and must take some beating in this event. A Sydney cablegram gives til'? weights for the A.J.C. Hurdles as follows:—Wimmera is top weight with 12.4, Marton 11.10, The Native 11.9. Julian and Beacon 1J.2, Whaknweira 10.10, Loch Mabin 9.9, Pi'ince. Eddie 9.0. In The ' Steeples. Vanguard, Glenmore and The Native are top with 11.12, Master Paul 11.9, Kild-.nan 9.3, Oliver Twist 9.0. It is reported (states a Sydney wire) that a big offer was made for Soltano, but it is unlikely to receive consideration until tjhe Derby is over. Soltano yesterday gallop;-1 ten furlongs, but did not attempt to make fast, time The Hera'd states that he blew noticeably when pulled up, and some quick-eared watchers are of opinion that he made a slight noise.
