THE ECHO OF A CRIME. Berlin, September 22. The Public Prosecutor at Eldherfeici has reopened an enquiry into the case of Frau Hamm, w ho was sentenc hd in 1908 to a long term of imprisonment for the murder of her husband, a peasant farmer. The conviction was based on the report of a police commissary at Berlin, who has since Ihft the service and whose methods the authorities severely criticised. GERMANY'S GENEROFS GRANT. I -

SUGAR FIGURES. (Received 12.15 p.m.) London, September 22. Professor Licht estimates that the sugar production has increased 2,548,000. There is a surplus of 2,031,000.
