Til AM CONDUCTOR'S DEATH. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, September 21. The Mayor of Wellington lias asked the Public Works Department to hold an official inquiry into the circumstances of the death of Conductor Breed en, who fell from a tram car at Oriental Bay on Saturday week. In his evidence at the inquest, the motorman of the ear stated that,the track was defective at. the spot where the accident occurred, and to clear this question up the Mayor asks for an inquiry.
A LABORER'S MISTAKE. Cliristchurch, September 12. Charles Nelson, aged 50 years, a laborer, was taken to the hospital last night in an unconscious condition, the result of taking a liniment intended only for external application. Nelsen iio-day explained that lie had been ,v/:ing the liniment to relieve pain, and lie thought that if he took some internally it would further assist in gelling rid of the pain. He took a tallespoonful, but with no intention of doing harm to himself. This afternoon he was reported to be doing well.
