People's Bank of India, at Lahore, with seventy-two branches as far apart as Rangoon and Bombay, and with eighty thousand capital, has suspended payment. This led to the closing down of the Aomritsar bank with fourteen branches. There was a continuous run on the other banks in Lahore managed by Indians. Those managed by Englishmen were not affected. The full extent of the trouble cannot yet be estimated.
