NEW JERSEY BLOOD.
FOR STEATFOED DISTRICT. Recently Mr E. G. Harkness, returned to New Zealand from a visit to Jersey Island and brought with him twelve beasts which he had personally selected. Two were sent on to Mr W. V. Harness, Tariki, and 2 have been purchased by Mr E. J. Kiikwood, and are now at Piakau Park, Stratford. The remaining eight are located at Otaki. Mr Kirkwood's two heifers arrived in Stratford on Saturday, and were on view in Broadway for some time, attracting quite a crowd of interested spectators. The animals are rather bigger than the usual run of Jerseys seen in the Dominion, and have every appearance of being excellent milkers. It is worthy of note that they were selected by Mr Harkness more for their dairy qualities than for their show qualities. In the past the Jerseys imported have been more of the show description. The "two heifers, will, naturally, be exhibited at the forthcoming Show; but Mr Kirkwood, in the meantime, will be glad to let those interested inspect them and peruse their written pedigrees. The two heifers are named White Stocking IV. and Susy Gamboge. Whit? Stocking IV., a whole color heifer, was bred by A. le Couteur, and was born in December, 1911. She is in call' to Pern's Oxford Noble, and is to calve in January next. Her dam is White Stocking. Her milking strain is inherited through her sire, Cowslip's Golden Noble, who is by Noble of Oaklands, who is out of Lady Viola, whose, successes on the Island are well known to Jersey men. Lady Viola was first over England whenever shown in from 1906 to 1908. Susy Gtomboge is a light fawn in color. She was born in May, 1911, was bred by E. Graziou, and is in calf to Benedictine's Nobleman, being due to calve next month. She is by Gamboge Knight out of Susy's Hope, Gamboge Knight being out of Gamboge's Pride IV., who has a large number of Island awards to her credit.
