in the Cooma district (states the Sydney Daily Telegraph) good results in rabbit destruction are being obtained by poisoning the roots of black thistles with powdered strychnine. The thistle is the natural food of the rahbit.
In the judgment summons case A Spence v. Alex Cruden at the Cour l this morning, a claim for £9 6s 6d. ai order was made for the payment o 15s monthly.
Tt came out in evidence at the Cour this morning that material removec from one of the Borough streets wai to be used to make mortar for £ building in course of erection.
Preparations are being made by the Salvation Army in England for a Lou don "siege." This will lie along the lines of last year's.campaign, in which 3000 persons professed conversion. 1000 becoming members of the Army. Strenuous efforts will be made to make this year's "siege" felt throughout the city.
William Holmes was charged at the Court this morning with having on September 6th allowed acalf to remain unburied so as to become a nuisance. The Borough Inspector explained that on September sth defendant had been fined £2 in repect of the same animal. Mr R. Spence appeared for defendant and explained that the animal had been burnt on September 11th, after having been pulled some distance away from the creek-bed where it was found. The body had not been burnt earlier because there had been a number of wet days after the previous line was indicted. Mr Kenrick said the public needed protection in the matter. Land-owners should not have to lie brought to Court to compel them to properly deal with dead animals. There was a duty on them in the interests of persons who might drink the water below their properties. In the special circumstances he would not inflict a fine, but defendant would be ordered to pay 7s costs.
