MONTHLY MEETTNG. The monthly meeting ot the Stratford County Council was held ycsteiday. .Present: Crs. W . Hathav. aj (chairman),' W. H. Mere, It. Maltei. .). Young, W. Rogers, J. Chistoftel, T. A. Anderson, and J. Smith. KXOIXEEU’S REPORT. The engineer (Mr E. C. Robinson reported: One hundred broadleaf post are being delivered in AA est Ridimr for £6. The Manaii Road cottac has been completed and repairs to th Cardiff cottage are in hand. ihe small concrete bridge on Peaconsfield Road has been completed, and a similar structure is in process of erection on Ahuroa Road west. The shell rock supply contract in Mangaolu; Riding is nearing completion. 1 hav ■ • measured up the amount already stack rd Temporary .repairs have been canned out on To Popo bridge, Alour tain Ropd, but a careful examination of this structure .proves it to be to far gone to do much with, and an early renewal will be unavoidable. The Kabouri bridge on the same road has been thoroughly examined, and tm piers and trusses found quite sound. A now totara deck will be put on it and it should then last for a consider able number of years. the roller has been doing good work on south Mountain Road, and when the presen 1 re-metalling operations have beer completed the whole of the road ir the Riding will have been treated. At present the governors are being titteo to the roller. The crushing plan 1 has been given a thorough overha.il and is now ready for next season's work. T propose, subject to the Council’s consent, to start work with i shortly at the Manganui crushing site The Engineer said a new bridge on the Mountain Road at Te Popo would cost about £SOO. The present bridge could carry all ordinary traffic for a year, but might collapse under a road roller.

North Riding (West). —The follow iiig roads have been repaired during the month; 'Mountain, York, Denbigh, RadnoiVjMomnouth, Flint, Lower and Upper Pembroke, Barclay and ZSlicl hirst township. "The upper, Pern, broke road is very thin in place's, pal ticnlarly near the school, and if much more'wet weather is experienced i will require m'ore maintenance metal. North Riding (East). —Repairs have been .Carried out' bn Beacon slield, Stanley East, Stanley Cross, and Croydon Roads, and Gambia Street, the latter with gravel from Mr Baker’s pit. The remainder of the month has bee:, spent in obtaining supply of hou’derat '-Ma'tiffia'hui’"crUShhig' sitek 1 About 000 yards are out.

Fast Riding (Toko). —The Beaconsfield Road has been well patched and the filling at the new bridge completed and fenced on the west side. Repairhare also been carried out on Toko Waiwiri and Ahuroa Roads. Tim Toko footpaths hare been re-grarelled and a side road and water-table formed from Toko Road corner.

East Riding (Douglas).—General repairs, slip clearing, and water-tab! ing hare been carried out on Ohura Ohura-Mangaehu and Mangaotuku Roads.

East Riding (Huiroa). —Repairs and maintenance hare been carried out on the following roads: Makuri cast and west, Akama, Mohakau and Douglas. A large culrert on Mohakau Road broke through, and has been tompor arilr repaired. It is, however, in -. rotten- condition. A small bridge on Makuri Road east is being renewed, and a had curre on the road eased r.r the same time. West Riding.— Seren 9-inch pine hare I 'been used on Ronald Road to replace an old culvert. Seven 12 ic pipes hare boon put in on Waingongoro Road to replace an old G-inc 1 pipe culrert. Seren, 9-inch pipehave !)een put in on Opnnake Road Xo. 3, to replace an old woodep-cul-vert. Four cubic yards of siting] hare been taken from Cardiff crushing site ft: - rep-”' , 's to Opnnake Road Xo. I. On Barclay Road the hacking of a filling over a culrert has broken away. Mangaehu Riding.—Dnr’ng the month the following work has been carried out : Bridge on Puni Road, pipe culvert Taiiiore Road, genera! repairs to Bindwiiakan, Mang.-n'liu. Alaiigaelin south. Mangaotuku and Tutnlawa Roads. Maintenance metal for Pembroke Road, near the school, is to ho supplied. Work on Toko ford paths is to he doin' at the Engine r's convenience. STAXDEIFI ROAD DRAIN. Mis C. Tlodgkinson, Auckland, wrote fm-lher regarding the drainage of her land on Blandish Road. She stated that a resident had been attending to the drains and al o to tin 1 outlet s of the creeks. A RAILWAY DR ATX. * Air L. A. Chapman, .Douglas, wait'd on the. Council in reference to the railway drain at Douglas. He sain io had communicated with the R..ilray Department, but they replied that ie should apply to the local authority, t was three years since the drain aid been cleared out, and all he ranted was that the drain he cleared, t was twenty years since he hau aken up the land and had made dry and out of a raupo swamp. He had aterviewed the Minister ior Public Works on the occasion of his recent risit, and had shown Mr Eraser the and as he passed it in the tram. All Eraser promised to do what he could a the matter.
