Professor Kirkaldy, addressing the British Association, said the greatest economical effect-or the i’arama Canal to the putside won - ! vould be that it would probably deflect cum--merce and trade from tbcvr present groove and cause an all-round modernisation of business methods. The question of fuel stations would bo cue of the most decisive factors. America will make a strenuous attempt to displace British coal, which, if successful, will deal a mortal blow to our mercantile marine.
