The i Headmaster* imported: Since \:mi* last I ’meeting.Hlie'’attendance .at, the 'sch'doi 'lias slightly improved, and now the average is running about Tv>A NPraikft. primary..department ,aauh 120 hi the High School—(ISO in all. Entries from this school from candidates who propose to sit this year for Scholarship and Public Service examinations were made last week. We have, I am pleased to say, a few promising pagdjdates from f whopi good work can he expected. The new regulation of the Public Service,,Commissioners.by which girls are not admitted tp Hie Public Service, examination this year, has lessened the.number of candidates 1 am putting forward for that examination, and ;l t ias<caused a.< good deal of disappointment to many of our senior girls. In my opinion, ample notice should always be given of nev. regulations such as this which material Iv alter well-established conditions. With the early spring there is ability of an early bathing 1 season, and I should like the committee to see that the promised improvements at-the baths are taken in hand at once. The 'general work of the school is proceed ing satisfactorily. It was decided that Messrs Smart and Fookes interview the Headmaster with a .view to finding out the exact position 1 as regards girls and the Civil Service examination. Messrs Smart, Fookes and Staples wore appointed a Baths Committee.. The Baths Committee is to go into the question of improving the teaching of swimming. VISIT ING COMMITTEE. • The Visiting Committee (Messrs Smart and Staples) reported: We have pleasure in submitting our report for the month. The buildings and.grounds are all in good order and well kept. The main drain lias been blocked twice and was cleared from the inspection pipe. Wc recommend that this be bricked up to surface of ground and wood lid fixed on. 'The probable cost would be about 80s. The caretaker requires an extension ladder about 20ft long so that he can keep all soon tings, gutters, heads and downpipes clear. The fences round the horse paddock require now wires also tune posts (about 36). You will also have to lay on the water and drinking trough for the horses. The caretaker, also the headmaster, wish to confer with the Baths Committee re the com ing season on various matters. The ground round the girls’ swing requires some attention and we wouh recommend, that it be levelled aur graded and then asphalted. It was decided that the observation pipe lie bricked as recommended. The chairman said the ladder wr.' • badly needed, to keep the spout in? 1 el >ar. A good quantity of needle; came off the pine trees, and it would be necessary to have a ladder or cut down the trees. The Education Board is to be aske' 1 for posts and wire for the horse-pad dock; also to supply a horse-trough Steps are also to be taken to have flu water laid on to the horse-paddock. The visiting committee is to. coni'--v.'rb the Headmaster regarding th space round the swings. Suggest hie v re made for tarring and sanding <• the space, also for provision of ta in addition/
