Mr A. C. Lawry, of Stratford was, on the motion of Mr A. H. Johnstone, admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court before His Honor Mr Justice Edwards at New Plymouth, yesterday.
Constable Liston and Mrs Liston arrived'in Stratford from the South last night. Mr Liston has been transferred from Te Wera to Wanganui, where he takes up his duties at once.
Cr. James Thomson, who is at present on his way back to the Dominion after a holiday in the Homeland, will be present at the next meeting of the County Council. This morning he wbs. granted leave of absence (from this month’s meeting.
Mr P. Skoglund, chairman of the School Committee, .was not present at last night’s meeting, being absent on sick leave. The Committee placed on record its regret at his absence and wished him a speedy recovery.
Dr. T. L. Paget to-day took up his regular practice again in Stratford. Since his full recovery to health he ' has visited Hawke’s Bay and New Plymouth, and returned home this ' . a morning.

Collier, the popular and enthusiastic Secretary of the New Plymouth Operatic Society, was in Stratford yesterday afctrnoon arranging for the forthcoming production of “The Country . 6irl” in Stratford by the New Plymouth Society 6tl Thursday, September 2oth., Competent critics, pronounce the performance of “The'j Country Girl”, as one of the outstandingly best; amateur performances ever, given in New Zealand.
Mr Jack Charter!®, of Taumarunui, and Mass Margaret A. Leydon. of Toko, were United in the bonds of holy matrimony at the Church of the Immaculate Conception yesterday, Rev. Father, .Maples officiating. A nuptial 3Vfa,ss was celebrated. The bride ,who was attired in a pretty cream satip diess, was accompanied by her { two sisters as bridesmaids, while Mr T. Zurcher was best man. After the ceremony a recep-
tion was held at the residence of the
bride’s mother at Toko, whence they returned per motor car and.caught
the three o’clock train en route to their new home at Taumarunui. Mr and Mrs Chatteris were the recipients of some lovely presents from a wide circe of friends.
The late Mr John Reynolds, whose death occurred yesterday at his residence, Skinner Road, at the age of 76, was a 'native of Ireland, and had resided in this district for twenty years, during all of which he was highly respected. There are left to mourn his loss his #idow and four sons and one daughter (Mrs Vincent, j of Wapganui), to whom sympathy is extended in their bereavement. Two of the sons reside in the district, while one is at Whakatane and the other at Otakeho. The ihteripcnt will take place at the Kopuatama cemetery on Thursday afternoon.
