The re-hearing or the inquiry into the wreck of the steamer Devon was commenced to-day before Mr Justice Chapman and Captains Waller and \V. J. Newton, assessors. The Court decided that Captain Canned should give his evidence independently, but the statements of other witnesses at the previous inquiry should be read and the witnesses examined further if necessary.

The Captain's evidence added little o tho statements made previously.
