' A FATAL EXPLOSION
[Per Press Association.] (Received 8.30 a.m.) Berlin, September 15. A gas explosion occurred in Coburg and a- house was blown into the air. Some of the inmates escaped, bul eleven were killed.
AN AWKWARD POSITION
(Received 10.50 a.m.) London, September 15
A spectator at a cricket match at Hitchen was arrested as an ex-convict for failing to report himself and as wanted at Birmingham, He was remanded in custody, although he stoutly protested that it was a case of mistaken identity. He described himself as Llewellyn Davies, a clergyman.
MURDER BY A CLERGYMAN
New York, September 15
A sensational arrest is that of the Reverend Hans Schmidt, charged wit! the murder of Anna Armaller. The deed was done because he loved her and she was married. He himself performed the ceremony.
DEATH OF A MOUNTAINEER
Vienna, September 15
Count Maurice Lilienthal and 8 young lady, both experienced mountaineers, essayed a dangerous ascenl of the Rax mountain. When nearins the top, Lilienthal • was seized witl cramp in the arms. He begged th< girl to massage him, and despite the fact that he was clinging to an almos* perpendicular rock she did so, but un successfully. Lilienthal suddenb fell nine hundred feet and was shock ingly mutilated. His terrified com panion with great difficulty complete! tho ascent and procured assistance.
VESUVIUS
Rome, September 15
Professor Malladra and two compan ions' descended twelve hundred feci into the crater of Vesuvius and fount inside the funnel .-at the bottom of th« crater an enormous fiery cavern. Thei lots their thermometers through tin steel rope fusing. Previous to th< mishap the thermometers registered 626 degrees Fahrenheit.
