JAPANESE CONSUL GENERAL

Saito, the Japanese Consul-General for Australasia, who is at present visiting Japan, has resigned. (Received 10.5 a.m.) Sydney, September 16. Mr Griffith expresses his willingness to'accept Mr Wade's offer to waive privilege in the event of Mr Griffith resorting to the 1 law courts to disprove Mr Wade's recent allegations, but the matter was one fo rhis fellow Ministers to decide. The Cabinet considers the question to-day.

THE RUENALF DEATHS
The coroner found that Ruenalf's deaths were caused by mischance and the arrestees in connection with the case were discharged.
THE LUNAR ECLIPSE
The lunar eclipse was fairly well observed. Tho Government astronomer made special observations with a view to determining more accurately the existence or otherwise of a lunar atmosphere.
THE BURDENS OF EMPIRE
Melbourne, September 16. Mr Cook, speaking at a Parliament-1 ary "at home" to the British Parliamentarians, said one thing they could teach the visitors was how to govern without a majority. A certain stand-; ard of Parliamentary policy was being evolved in Australia. For instance, whatever party was in power it was now assured that defence must proceed along lines of Imperial co-oper-ation and co-ordination. Australians were grown up and were realising more and more their obligations to get beneath the burdens of the Empire.
