EAST MOUNTAIN HOUSE.

AFTER A VISIT. The telephone recently erected to the East Mountain House has already proved of great assistance to the caretaker, and will, no doubt, be largely availed of in the coming season by visitors. Since Mr and Mrs H. Williams went into residence oh June J.4th, there have been quite a number of visitors to the House, a whole page of the visitors'- bock having been filled with names. The track still remains in rather bad condition, though the mud "County road is not now so wet or cut up as it has been. On the upper portion of the track in. the reserve a good deal of patching has been done, though there is still much to do. Within a few days, however, Mr Williams hopes to make a start on improving the County mud road. The House and the clearing are being given a much improved appearance, untidy timber having been removed. A small fenced enclosure has been made* for the reception of horses and further ones are contemplated. These enclosures are designed to enable drivers to quickly secure their horses when leaving for home. They will not provide grazing for the horses. There are at present a number of cattle loose in the reserve, and they are contributing largely to keep the track in bad condition. If the keepers of the Houses wore given powers of pounding on the spot, this nuisance could bo greatly reduced. The track through to Curtis Falls is very plainly blazed, though confusion is caused at a few points through trees having fallen across the track.
