KING EDWARD VII. LAND.

A 191-1 EXPEDITION

An expedition has been arranged to explore King Edward VII Land, and will start in August, 1914. The

steam yacht Polaris will be in command of Staqkhouse, who was associated with Captain Scott in the organising voyage of the Terra Nova. The expedition will bo absent 20 months.

INTENTIONS OF THE EXPLORERS

Stackhouse was Scott's intimate as sociate. Scott promised Tiim thTerra Nova's instruments for a pro posed exploration east of King Ed ward VII Land. The Polaris has been specially constructed for an ice expedition. Stackhouse intends to spend tw< years in the Antarctic, wintering oi the pack, while the vessel returns t< New Zealand. Stackhouse, who takes a large staf or scientists and a crew of forty, sail via P.unta Arenas. The expedition will cost £40,000 and the fund already has had cousid {.•fable financial support.
